TO: Honorable City Council
FROM: City Manager
SUBJECT: Proclamation – Designate the Week of May 14 – 20, 2023, as National Transportation Week Meeting Date: May 9, 2023
RECOMMENDATION:

With the consent of the City Council, the Mayor will proclaim the week of May 14 – 20, 2023, as National Transportation Week.

ANALYSIS:

The week of May 14 – 20, 2023, is recognized annually as National Transportation Week (NTW). NTW is a way to increase the awareness and appreciation of the transportation industry and celebrate the community of transportation professionals who keep our country moving.

Public transportation keeps local communities together and allows them to expand and extend their economic boundaries. NTW allows us to join together for greater awareness and appreciation of the City of Commerce bus operators, mechanics, service workers, dispatchers, and support personnel. I encourage everyone to take a moment and thank all transit workers for their hard work and dedication.

ALTERNATIVES:

Approve recommendation.

Reject staff recommendation.

Provide staff with further direction.

FISCAL IMPACT:

In honor of NTW, staff shall celebrate each day of the workweek with a unique theme, with the crescendo being a food truck lunch. This activity may be carried out without additional impact on the current operating budget and can be paid out of the transportation account 57-8331-60010. The total cost shall not exceed $3,000.

RELATIONSHIP TO STRATEGIC GOALS:

This Agenda item relates to the 2016 Strategic Plan – Guiding Principle #2: "Foster a positive environment that continuously seeks to improve service and organizational responsiveness to internal and external customers," as this action provides an opportunity for the City to join together for greater awareness and appreciation of the transportation industry.
