Item No.

TO: Honorable City Council
FROM: City Manager
SUBJECT: Tree City U.S.A. 2022 Award and Recognition of the Arbor Day 2023 Poster Contest Winners Meeting Date: June 13, 2023
RECOMMENDATION:

The City Council will consider receiving and filing the Tree City U.S.A. 2022 Award to the City of Commerce Public Works Department’s Tree Division from the National Arbor Day Foundation. Recognition awards will also be presented to the winners of the Arbor Day 2023 Poster Contest from Bandini Elementary School and Rosewood Park Elementary School.

ANALYSIS:

The Public Works Department’s Tree Division met the requirements of the National Arbor Day Foundation through its education efforts coordinated with the City’s elementary schools and is qualified to receive the Tree City U.S.A. 2022 Award for the 37th consecutive year. Receipt of this award exemplifies the quality of service provided to the community by the Tree Division who is proud to be recognized and honored.

This year, the City commemorated Arbor Day on March 30, 2023. The City’s Arborist and a representative of the Los Angeles County Forestry Division participated in the celebration by visiting 4th and 5th grade students at Bandini Elementary School to demonstrate tree planting and to distribute a seedling to each student.
