RESOLUTION NO. ###
A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF COMMERCE TO TO DESIGNATE AN ARTS DISTRICT IN THE CITY OF COMMERCE WHEREAS, the City of Commerce has a long tradition of support for community engagement, arts, and culture; WHEREAS, the City’s goal is to enhance and promote regional development that will have lasting positive impacts for the future of the Commerce community; WHEREAS, thriving cities have a strong arts and cultural community that attract businesses, residents, and future visitors; WHEREAS, an Arts District designation in the City of Commerce will serve to foster the arts and creative expression within the Commerce Arts District boundaries and convey the identity and unique character of the City to the community and beyond; WHEREAS, an Arts District designation in the City of Commerce will act as an economic driver for revitalization, build on the strength of existing arts, businesses, and entertainment activity to grow new activity, create an awareness and appreciation of the value of arts and culture, and foster a community emphasis on diversity as a key feature; WHEREAS, an Arts District will give a vibrant and visible face to the City’s creative community and offer creative individuals, organizations, and businesses to express their talents in the City of Commerce; WHEREAS, the Arts District will build on the existing momentum of the Art in Public Places ordinance that allows for the incorporation of public art into the community and into development projects within the City; WHEREAS, the City of Commerce City Council approved the Arts District recommendation at their meeting on September 26, 2023, to fully support their designation and development of an Arts District in the City of Commerce; NOW, THEREFORE, THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF COMMERCE DOES HEREBY RESOLVE, DECLARE AND DETERMINE AS FOLLOWS:
Section 1. The City Council of the City of Commerce hereby finds and declares that the foregoing recitals are true and correct, and incorporates them herein as findings and as a substantive part of this Resolution.
Section 2. The City receives the recommendation and attachments as a framework to formally designate the City of Commerce’s Arts District.
Section 3. Authorize the Mayor to execute the Resolution for and on behalf of the City of Commerce.
Section 4. The City Clerk shall certify to the adoption of this Resolution.
Section 5. This Resolution shall take full force and effect immediately upon adoption by the City Council.
