TO: Honorable City Council
FROM: City Manager
SUBJECT: BUSINESS WATCH PROGRAM UPDATE
MEETING DATE: April 23, 2024
RECOMMENDATION:
The City Council will receive an update about the Business Watch Program and provide direction as may be deemed necessary.
BACKGROUND:
The City Council requested an update about the Business Watch Program at the meeting on April 9, 2024. The information requested includes what department managed the program, what is the program’s status, and how can the community get involved.
ANALYSIS:
The Public Safety Division is responsible for the Business Watch Program and is currently in the process of launching the program to an active status. Up until recently, Public Safety and Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department have been meeting with business owners as individual requests have come in. Public Safety scheduled a meeting with Robert Taylor from the Commerce Business Council for April 30, 2024, to discuss opportunities of working together. The goal of this meeting is to organize a Business Watch kickoff meeting for businesses and to develop relationships to host future Public Safety meetings.
Staff are currently updating Business Watch information materials to share. Last month, Public Safety shared helpful tips and contact information directed at City businesses on social media.
The Business Watch Program will focus on meeting with businesses in different areas of the City to offer information and listen to concerns. The Public Safety Division will be organizing the initial launch meeting with the Commerce Business Council, updating the City website, refreshing informational materials, and promoting the program on social media.
Staff recommends receiving and filing this update on the Business Watch Program.
FISCAL IMPACT:
None at this time.
