CITY OF COMMERCE
AGENDA REPORT
TO: Honorable City Council
FROM: City Manager
SUBJECT: Citywide Wayfinding Vehicular Directional Signs Project Acceptance MEETING DATE: May 14, 2024
RECOMMENDATION:
The City Council will consider adoption of a Resolution accepting the Citywide Wayfinding Vehicular Directional Signs Project as complete, authorizing staff to file the Notice of Completion with the County Recorder’s Office and authorizing release of 5% retention per contract provisions.
BACKGROUND:
On April 16, 2019, the City Council approved the contract documents for the Citywide Wayfinding Vehicular Directional Signs Project and authorized staff to advertise for bids for construction. Staff advertised the project and issued the Notice Inviting Bids with the public bid opening scheduled for July 23, 2019 and only one (1) bid was received in the amount of $255,100. On October 15, 2019, City Council rejected the construction bid for the Citywide Wayfinding Vehicular Directional Signs Project due to the bid exceeding the project’s intended construction budget.
On April 18, 2023, staff re-advertised the bid package for the Project. On May 23, 2023, City Council awarded the construction contract to Square Signs LLC DBA Front Signs for $139,680.26 and authorized a 20% contingency in the amount of $27,936.05 for a total construction budget of $167,616.31.
ANALYSIS
The Citywide Way-finding Vehicular Directional Signs Project consisted of forty-six (46) wayfinding vehicular directional signs to be installed at gateways, major intersections, and major roadways. The Citywide Wayfinding Vehicular Directional Signs Project implements a functional and integrated system that communicates and markets the Commerce brand and guides visitors to easily find their way to intended locations as well as promote the discovery of the City’s many points of interest.
The work under the contract commenced on July 26, 2023 and was completed satisfactorily on April 29, 2024 and ready for acceptance. Staff recommends that the City Council adopt the attached resolution accepting the Project as complete, authorize staff to file the “Notice of Completion” with the County Recorder’s Office for the project and authorize release of Contractor’s 5% retention per contract provisions.
