TO: Honorable City Council
FROM: City Manager
SUBJECT: Public Works Week Proclamation
Meeting Date: May 14, 2024
RECOMMENDATION:
The City Council will consider proclaiming the week of May 19 – May 25, 2024 as National Public Works Week in the City of Commerce.
ANALYSIS:
Since 1960, the American Public Works Association (APWA) has encouraged communities and government agencies at all levels to celebrate the hard work and dedication of the many public works professionals throughout North America who provide, operate, build, and maintain our essential services such as water, refuse, sewers, streets, trees and public facilities.
This year’s theme is “Advancing Quality of Life for All” to illustrate how public works professionals contribute to and enhance the quality of life in all the communities they proudly serve; their efforts and achievements make the environment that we live in possible, clean, safe and healthy and it’s important to acknowledge their dedication and hard work. 2024 National Public Works Week Poster
