SUBJECT: Adoption of Resolution Approving the New City of Commerce Code Enforcement/Code Compliance Ad Hoc Committee, and Appointments to the Ad Hoc Committee Meeting Date: May 14, 2024
RECOMMENDATION:
Adopt a Resolution approving a new Code Enforcement/Code Compliance ad hoc committee, and appoint two councilmembers to the ad hoc committee to work with staff to study, evaluate and recommend code enforcement direction, and code compliance assistance programs.
BACKGROUND / ANALYSIS:
During the Code Enforcement Operations Presentation phase of the April 23rd Council meeting, Councilmembers Rebollo and Lainez directed staff to schedule the creation of a Code Enforcement/Code Compliance ad hoc committee to provide code enforcement direction, and to discuss and recommend code compliance assistance programs.
The City of Commerce Code Enforcement staff actively work on improving the aesthetic quality of the city and quality of life for the city’s population through enforcement measures and code compliance guidance. In past years, prior to the Redevelopment Agency Dissolution, the City offered home improvement/compliance programs such as the Home Preservation Grant, Neighborhood Fix-Up Grant, Substantial Rehab Grant and Senior Yard Maintenance Programs, which Code Enforcement staff could use as a tool and direct residents to these programs to assist in bringing violations into compliance.
