TO: Honorable City Council
FROM: City Manager
SUBJECT: A Resolution of the City Council of the City of Commerce, California, Approving the Purchase of a Security Camara Upgrade System for the Transit Maintenance Facility and Commerce 26th Street Metrolink Station MEETING DATE: July 23, 2024
RECOMMENDATION:
The City Council will consider approving the Purchase of a Security Camara Upgrade System for the Transit Maintenance Facility and Commerce 26th Street Metrolink Station.
BACKGROUND:
On November 6, 1990, the County of Los Angeles voters approved by majority Proposition C, an ordinance establishing a one-half percent sales tax for public transit purposes. Five (5%) percent of the Proposition C funds must be used to improve and expand rail and transit security. Los Angeles County Metropolitan Transportation Authority (LACMTA) is the agency responsible for administering these funds. The City’s allocation for Prop C 5% Transit Security funds for FY 2024/25 is $75,556.
ANALYSIS:
The existing security camera system was installed on April 14, 2014, and has exceeded its usefulness. Furthermore, due to the age of camera technology, most replacement parts are no longer available from the manufacturer. Staff proposes upgrading the existing cameras throughout the Transit Maintenance Facility (TMF) and the Commerce 26th Street Metrolink Station. The upgrade shall help protect the City's employees, patrons, and assets by monitoring entrance and exit activity throughout the TMF and the Commerce 26th Street Metrolink Station.

RELATIONSHIP TO 2016 STRATEGIC GOALS:
This agenda item relates to the 2016 strategic planning goal of “reviewing and updating services and activities to increase efficiency,” as the proposed recommendation outlined in this report assists in mitigating the City’s liability exposure.
