PARKING ANALYSIS
Cit y of Commerce - Vi l lage Neighborhood
A summary report of survey responses related to parking concerns in the neighborhood City of Commerce - Public Safety Division
On March 14, 2024, Public Safety hosted a Neighborhood Watch meeting in the Village Neighborhood. During this meeting, several comments were made about parking issues. These comments included:

Idea of permit parking
Allowing lawn parking
Allow driveways to be widened
Public parking options
After this meeting, staff was directed to create a survey and distribute to the 140 homes within this neighborhood. A survey was drafted and reviewed by City Council.

On April 4, 2024, staff hand delivered numbered surveys to each home in the Village at their front door step. The numbers on the survey were to assist with ensuring duplicates were not submitted. The surveys were delivered at random and addresses were not associated to the numbers.

The deadline to email, mail, or drop-off the survey responses was April 18, 2024. The City received 72 of the 140 surveys.

16 5. Do you support amending the code to allow driveways to be widened?
a.Yes
b.No
Feedback related to this question:
“By widening the driveways for 4-5 vehicles, makes the property go down.”
“Years ago we had our driveway widened. With 4 cars in driveway and 2 in garage that makes room for 6. The no parking overnight has kep our village quiet and clean. When there is an event in the City or at Steven's the village becomes trash. We don't want to imagine how bad it would get on a regular basis.”
“Only widen driveway for operable cars”
*72 surveys received of 140 homes
“Neighbors add to the problem by parking on lawns and blocking sidewalk” “Just because 2 households have many vehicles and don’t follow rules, it doesn’t mean all residents from the neighborhood have to pay the consequences”
“Before issuing permit parking, the City should encourage Residents to widen driveway and clean out their garages, making it possible to park up to 4 cars per household. City also needs to enforce removal of non-mobile cars from grass areas, before issuing street permits.”
“Concerned with RV's, trailers, and abandoned vehicles with overnight parking”
“I highly value the safety and peace of mind the night time parking restrictions provide. Every home has a 2-car garage and driveway. Please preserve the character and home value of the village neighborhood. Thank you.”
“I would suggest overnight parking only on holidays, Christmas, and New Years Eve, when families get together. Residents should be allowed to widen their driveways. They should NOT be allowed to park in their front yard grass.”
