TO: Honorable City Council
FROM: Ernie Hernandez, City Manager
SUBJECT: A Resolution of the City Council of the City of Commerce, California Approving an Agreement between the City and Sky Elements Drone Show, Inc. for the City Birthday Opening Ceremonies Meeting Date: October 22, 2024
RECOMMENDATION:
Approve an agreement between the City of Commerce and Sky Elements Drone Shows Inc. for the City Birthday Opening Ceremonies Display at Rosewood Park.
ANALYSIS/BACKGROUND:
The Parks and Recreation Department is excited to kick off the City of Commerce’s 65th Birthday Celebration with a series of yearlong events. Among these activities, a highlight will be a drone show scheduled for Saturday, January 25, 2025, as part of the Opening Ceremonies.
On July 9, 2024, the City Council approved a budget of $250,000 for the celebration, which includes the drone show. In addition to this event, the Parks and Recreation Department is planning a variety of community activities throughout the year to ensure that all residents can participate in the celebration.
During the City’s 60th Birthday in 2020, many events were canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic, and only a few could be held. The inclusion of the drone show and other scheduled events for the 65th Birthday will ensure a memorable and inclusive celebration for all residents.
FISCAL IMPACT:
The total cost for the proposed drone show is $40,000 for the 2024/25 Fiscal Year. If the City Council approves the agreement, the remaining budget related to future birthday celebration expenses would be $210,000.
RELATIONSHIP TO STRATEGIC GOALS:
This agenda item relates to Strategic Goal #1: Develop Citywide Plan to enhance and maintain the City of Commerce environment and infrastructure to create livability and quality of life for those who life, work and play in the community.
