Item No.

TO: Honorable City Council
FROM: City Manager
SUBJECT: County of Los Angeles Public Health Services Agreement Meeting Date: February 25, 2025
RECOMMENDATION:

Adopt a resolution approving a new agreement with Los Angeles County for public health services.

ANALYSIS:

The City wishes to continue its contract with the County for the provision of public health services through the County’s Department of Public Health. Under this agreement, the County Health Officer will serve as the City’s Health Officer, and the County’s Department of Public Health will act as the City’s Environmental Health Department.

The contract will remain in full force and effect until June 30, 2029, and may be automatically renewed for consecutive five-year terms unless either the City or the County chooses to terminate it.

As part of the agreement, the County and the County Health Officer will provide services such as issuing public health orders, enforcing quarantines, and implementing other regulations related to public health. They will also enforce public health statutes and provisions of the Los Angeles County Code within the City, consistent with their application in the County.

The City has previously adopted County Code Title 8 and Title 11, which are codified in the Commerce Municipal Code, as well as County Ordinance 97-0071.

Staff recommends approval of the agreement between the Los Angeles County Department of Public Health and the City of Commerce for the continued performance of public health services.
