CITY OF COMMERCE AGENDA REPORT
TO: Honorable City Council
FROM: City Manager
SUBJECT: Funding request for a new modular and the removal of two modulars at Veterans Park DATE: Tuesday, March 11, 2025

RECOMMENDATION
Staff recommends that City Council approve funding allocation of up to $50,000 to secure and install a new modular office trailer at Veterans Park to accommodate ongoing Parks and Recreation programming needs. In addition, this proposal includes the cost to remove the old modular trailers that are currently on the Veterans Park property.

BACKGROUND
On December 20, 2016, the City Council approved the installation of modular office trailers at Veterans Park following the closure of the main building. Initially intended as a temporary solution, these modular offices quickly became integral to daily operations and programming, serving as essential spaces for staff and community activities. With the ongoing Veterans Park improvement project, the old modular trailers have been vacated and are currently on-site, awaiting removal.

The new modular trailer is crucial not only for providing functional office space but also for serving as a dedicated location for various department programming. Without this space, staff face challenges in managing and delivering effective programs for the community.

Request for Modular Office Trailers:

To ensure efficient operations and programming at Veterans Park, staff propose renting a new modular office trailer. This allocation will also cover the removal of the existing modular trailers.

Key Specifications for New Modular Office Trailers:

Office Layout: Designated office spaces on the right side to offer clear visibility over both the main building and the adjacent green space/picnic area, ensuring efficient oversight of park activities and improved safety.

Air Conditioning: Units placed on the left side to provide adequate climate control and comfort for staff and visitors.

Programming Space: Flexible areas within the trailers designed to accommodate various departmental programming activities, enhancing community engagement and participation.

The quote received will cover the cost associated with delivering, installing a new modular trailer and the removal of the old trailers. Timely approval and installation of the new modular office will prevent further disruption to park programming

FISCAL IMPACT
If the City Council accepts staff’s recommendation, a one-time funding allocation (from the General Fund’s Unallocated Fund Balance (Reserves) of $50,000 will be needed to remove the two existing modular units, and subsequently the installation of one new modular unit.
