TO: Honorable City Council
FROM: City Manager
SUBJECT: Public Works Week Proclamation
Meeting Date: May 13, 2025
RECOMMENDATION:
That the City Council consider proclaiming the week of May 18 – May 24, 2025 as National Public Works Week in the City of Commerce.
ANALYSIS:
Since 1960, the American Public Works Association (APWA) has encouraged communities and government agencies at all levels to celebrate the hard work and dedication of the many public works professionals throughout North America who provide, operate, build, and maintain our essential services such as water, refuse, sewers, streets, trees and public facilities.
This year’s theme is “People, Purpose, Presence”. Public works professionals put conscious thought and effort into enhancing the quality of life of all the people they serve. The people make public works an essential service; a service which public works professionals proudly carry out every day with purpose and motivation. These professionals will continue to shine through their work by providing a noticeably attractive, clean, safe and healthy environment. 2025 National Public Works Week Poster
