Mayor Altamirano called Concurrent Special meeting to order at 6:18 p.m.

PUBLIC COMMENT
There were no individuals wishing to address the City Council on any item on the agenda.
SCHEDULED MATTERS
1. 2025 Hall of Champions Award
Director of Parks and Recreation Alaniz provided an overview of the staff report.
Councilmember Garcia asked how much time the Parks and Recreation Commissioners were given to review, compare, and evaluate the applications.
Director Alaniz responded that the applications were distributed to the Commissioners three weeks prior to the meeting. Councilmember Garcia expressed that she was satisfied with the selection made by the Parks and Recreation Commission.
Councilmember Argumedo concurred with Councilmember Garcia, stating that the Council should respect the selection made by the Commissioners.
City Manager Hernandez added that the guidelines for the selection process were established by the City Council. However, he clarified that the Council retains discretion and may modify or expand the process as desired.
There was consensus among the majority of the Council to continue the item to the next meeting in order to obtain more detailed information regarding the selection City of Commerce Page 1 Printed on 6/10/2025

Councilmember Rebollo suggested that the Hall of Champions recognition should occur more frequently than every five years, to provide greater opportunities for deserving athletes to be honored.
