Emery Adalyn Merlos
Emery is an extraordinary 11-year-old girl from Compton, CA. On March 21, 2022, she faced the heartbreaking loss of her father to suicide—an event that would change her life forever. In the months that followed, Emery began a journey of healing and resilience through the art of Jiujitsu, starting her training in July 2022. Remarkably, just two months later, she stepped onto the competition mat for the first time.
Since then, Emery has poured her heart and soul into her training. To strengthen her skills even further, she took on wrestling and quickly rose to become one of the best in the nation—earning multiple national titles and hundreds of medals and trophies along the way.
In April 2025, Emery reached a milestone in her young athletic career by completing the final tournament of the Wrestling World Series—one of the toughest youth wrestling circuits in the world. She not only placed 1st but was also honored as Outstanding Wrestler in her age group.
With less than two years of wrestling experience, she earned the prestigious Trinity Award—an extraordinary accomplishment.
In addition to her wrestling success, Emery is also a two-time PAN Kids Champion in Jiujitsu, one of the biggest and most competitive youth tournaments globally. She is now training hard for her third title this July.
Through every match, every practice, and every challenge, Emery trains with full heart and dedication. Her dream is to one day become an Olympian and to earn her Black Belt in Jiujitsu.
She is a shining example of perseverance, strength, and the power of hard work—rising from humble beginnings in the trailer parks of Compton and turning her pain into purpose.
You can follow Emery’s inspiring journey on Instagram: @iamemerysavage.
We just want to recognize and celebrate her incredible spirit. Despite all she’s faced, she continues to push forward with courage and determination. We truly believe this is only the beginning of her amazing path.
