MEMO
TO: Corcoran City Council
FROM: Greg Gatzka, City Manager
DATE: July 5, 2024 MEETING DATE: July 9, 2024
SUBJECT: Permanent Elimination of Deputy Police Chief Classification Summary:
Council resolution adoption is needed to complete the Fiscal Year 2024-25 Budget and Salary changes that permanently eliminate the City's job classification of Deputy Police Chief.
Recommendation:
Consider approving Resolution No. 4039 to permanently eliminate the Deputy Police Chief job classification.
Budget impact:
None with this action. The permanent elimination of the Deputy Police Chief job classification is part of the Fiscal Year 2024-25 Budget adopted on June 25, 2024, and Police Department reorganization.
Background:
On June 25, 2024, the Corcoran City Council adopted the Fiscal Year 2024-25 Budget, and the Salary and Benefits Resolution No. 4038 that addressed an unanticipated revenue shortfall from FY 2023-24, as well as projected revenue decline through FY 2024-25 that further delays the City's economic recovery. This adopted budget implements a Police Department reorganization that reduces the workforce of upper management positions within the department and discontinues the use of the two Deputy Police Chief positions, and directs limited resources to address critical public safety needs fund additional police officer positions. The last step in this process is for the City Council to adopt a resolution to complete the process of permanently eliminating the job classification of Deputy Police Chief from use in city employment.
