REQUEST FOR CITY COUNCIL ACTION
DATE: 06/15/2022
TO: Honorable Mayor and City Council Members
FROM: City Manager’s Office
SUBJECT:

Appointment of two Council representatives to serve on the Corona Schools Committee EXECUTIVE SUMMARY:

The City Council will consider appointing two of its members to a reformed Schools Committee to meet with similarly appointed Board Members from the Corona/Norco Unified School District.

RECOMMENDED ACTION:

That the City Council appoint two of its members to serve on the Corona Schools Committee.

BACKGROUND & HISTORY:

One of the tasks of City Councilmembers is serve on various local and regional committee and board assignments and appointments. Serval years ago, the Corona Schools Committee was one such assignment, where the City Council would appoint two of its members to meet on a regular basis with similarly assigned Board Members from the Corona/Norco Unified School District. Currently, staff has been asked to place an item on the Agenda, requesting that the City Council again appoint two of its members to serve on a newly reconstituted Schools Committee. On June 14, 2022, the District will have a similar conversation with its Board to appoint two of its members to this Committee. The Committee will discuss issues of mutual concern and determine ways to work together on topics of mutual interest.

ANALYSIS:

At the current time, the meeting schedule for a reconstituted Schools Committee is undefined. Such a schedule would be worked out after the appointments occur and over the next few months. Should the potential appointments occur, staff will begin working with the Council representatives and the District on the logistics of the meetings, including frequency, when, and where such meetings will occur. The District indicates that meetings would most likely not begin until sometime in the fall City of Corona Page 1 of 2 Printed on 6/13/2022

occur. The District indicates that meetings would most likely not begin until sometime in the fall coinciding with the start of the new school year. The Superintendent and the City Manager would also be involved in these meetings. Staff recommends that the Council appoint two of its members to serve on the Committee.

FINANCIAL IMPACT:

None.
