Background
1. What is the purpose for the request i.e. what you are trying to achieve or do? I received a request from Mr. Kirk Carlson, a U.S. Marine Corps veteran and current resident of Corona, asking the city to support an advocacy effort called the #ReasonableRanks campaign, which is a community-driven initiative aimed at reforming military discharge policies to give injured veterans the opportunity to continue serving in non-combat roles.
I would like for Council to consider supporting the initiative with a letter of support only.
2. What is the scope of the work you wish to see done?
A letter of support.
3. Does this request align with the City’s Strategic Plan? How? Yes – it connects to our purpose to “create a community where everyone can thrive” and aligns with Strategic Goals 2 (strong economy) and 5 (sense of place).
4. What is the desired timeline to have the issue considered by Council? Next Council meeting on June 4, 2025.
5. Is the issue urgent, requiring action before the next priority setting session of Council (Fall/Spring Workshop)?
