Re: Underground Utility Waiver Request
Property Address: 1245 W Ontario Avenue, Corona, CA 92882 To Whom It May Concern,
I am the property owner of 1245 W Ontario Avenue, Corona, California, and I am submitting this letter in support of a request for a waiver from the requirement to underground existing overhead utility lines along the street frontage of the property.
Per Corona Municipal Code (CMC) Section 15.60.040, overhead utility lines transmitting less than 34,000 volts are required to be undergrounded when applicable. Based on the Building Valuation Data calculation and pursuant to CMC Section 15.60.080, the scope of work for the proposed project exceeds the threshold that triggers the undergrounding requirement.
However, in accordance with CMC Section 15.60.060, I am requesting a waiver of this requirement on the basis that compliance would result in a significant financial burden.
The costs associated with undergrounding the existing overhead utility lines located along W Ontario Avenue, including utility coordination, trenching, conduit installation, restoration, and related construction expenses, are estimated to be approximately $60,000. This cost would impose an unreasonable and disproportionate financial hardship on me as the property owner and exceeds what can reasonably be supported relative to the nature and scope of the project.
The utility lines in question are the existing lower-voltage overhead lines fronting W Ontario Avenue and not the on-site electrical service connection. Granting this waiver would not adversely impact public health or safety and is consistent with the intent of the Corona Municipal Code provisions allowing relief where strict compliance results in unnecessary hardship.
For these reasons, I respectfully request approval of a waiver from the undergrounding requirement for this property.
