Future Agenda Item Request Form
Future agenda items should be limited to new issues that emerge during the year that are urgent and cannot wait until the next priority setting session of Council before requiring action.

Name: Wes Speake
Date: 8/24/2026
Title Name/Topic: Online Garage Sale Registration and Interactive Webmap Program Background

1. What is the purpose of the request, i.e. what are you trying to achieve or do? Establish a City-sponsored online garage sale registration platform and interactive webmap that allows residents conducting garage sales to voluntarily register their sale, display sale information online, and improve community participation. The goal is to modernize the City's garage sale process, improve resident awareness, reduce signage clutter, and provide a convenient digital resource for residents and visitors seeking garage sales throughout the community.

As part of the evaluation, staff should determine whether the City's existing GIS platform can host the application and whether an automated registration-to-map workflow could be developed using current software licenses, minimizing implementation costs while maximizing public accessibility. This concept could potentially serve as a pilot program for other resident-facing community event mapping initiatives in the future.

2. What is the scope of the work you wish to see done?
If approved, staff would evaluate and return with recommendations focused on the following targeted areas:
• Online Registration Platform
o Evaluate implementation of an online garage sale registration process accessible through the City's website.
o Allow residents to enter sale dates, times, address, and optional general descriptions what is being sold.
o Explore integration with existing permit or registration requirements, if applicable.
• Interactive Public Webmap
o Develop an interactive GIS-based webmap displaying registered garage sales throughout the City.
o Include searchable and map-based viewing options.
o Allow users to filter by date, neighborhood, or sale type.
