TRAFFIC SIGNAL INSTALLATION AT BEDFORD CANYON & GEORGETOWN DRIVE PROJECT NO. ST-2019-02 CONTRACT CHANGE ORDER NO. 04
On July 22, CPE (electrical subcontractor) foreman informed City staff that Socal Gas was unable to locate a 2-inch and 8-inch gas line. Originally the contractor hoped that they could bore the conduit through the street but since Socal Gas was unable to locate their utility, the contractor is unable to confirm the clearance needed to bore. Ultimately, proceeding with the bore option would pose a significant risk to hitting/damaging the unmarked gas line. Therefore, it was recommended to proceed with open trench to determine the clearance and reduce the risk of hitting the gas lines. The cost includes the open trench needed in front of the fire station due to the amount of utilities near the lift station and for the crossing from the Northwest Corner to the Southwest Corner. There is a channel running diagonally that would conflict with the boring operation therefore the crossing must also be open trench.
Due to the vast amount of utilities, the proposed location of the traffic signal poles on the plans will need to be adjusted. One of the main conflicts was the installation of a Type 24-3-100 (pole) fronting the city sewer lift station. After the contractor potholed, it was found that the deep foundation required would have conflicted with the utilities near the sewer lift station. Therefore, the decision was made to incorporate the use of a reverse mast arm since a pole of that size will not be able to be installed at the original proposed location.
In coordination with SCE (SoCal Edison), SCE provided city staff with the final service plan that would require additional linear feet of conduit in order to provide service to the proposed traffic signal.
All supporting documents have been attached.
