RECOMMENDATION:

Consider for appointment one new member and reappointment of one member to serve threeyear terms to expire December 31, 2026, on the Historic Resource Commission.

BACKGROUND:

City of Coronado Administrative Procedure No. 204 and Council Policy limit the time an individual may serve on a board, commission, or committee to a maximum of two terms or eight years, whichever is less. City Council Policy No. 6 and No. 23 set forth the process for reappointing eligible incumbents and the competitive process to fill vacancies on City boards, commissions, and committees.

ANALYSIS:

Commissioner Mary Jane Clements was appointed to the Historic Resource Commission on December 17, 2019, and is seeking reappointment for a second three-year term. At the Regular Meeting of March 2, 2021, the City Council approved extending the terms of all board, commission, and committee members by one (1) year due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Commissioner Clements’ at-large term was set to expire on December 31, 2022, but was extended to December 31, 2023.

Commissioner Jamie Jamison submitted her resignation on August 28, 2023, effective at the end of her term. Ms. Jamison was first appointed to the Historic Resource Commission on December 1, 2020.

The following individuals have submitted applications for consideration (listed alphabetically by last name):
• Jamie Hartnett
• Brenda Jo Robyn
• Refugio Rochin
FISCAL IMPACT:

ALTERNATIVE:

The City Council could decline to make the appointment and reappointment and direct the City Clerk to advertise for additional applicants.
