CONSIDERATION OF REAPPOINTMENT OR APPOINTMENT OF THREE MEMBERS TO THE MOBILITY COMMISSION TO SERVE THREE-YEAR TERMS TO EXPIRE DECEMBER 31, 2026
RECOMMENDATION:
Consider for reappointment three members to serve three-year terms to expire December 31, 2026 on the Mobility Commission.
BACKGROUND:
The City of Coronado Administrative Procedure No. 204 and Council policy limits the time an individual may serve on a board, commission, or committee to a maximum of two terms or eight years, whichever is less. City Council Policies No. 6 and No. 23 set forth the process for reappointing eligible incumbents and the competitive process to fill vacancies on City boards, commissions, and committees.
ANALYSIS:
Commissioners Robin Hagemann, Andrew Gade, and Daniel Orr were appointed to the Mobility Commission on April 5, 2022, April 4, 2023, and December 17, 2019, respectively, and are seeking reappointment for a three (3) year term.
At the Regular Meeting of March 2, 2021, the City Council approved extending the terms of all board, commission, and committee member terms by one (1) year due to the COVID-19 pandemic. As a result, Commissioner Orr's term, originally set to expire on December 31, 2022, was extended to December 31, 2023. The initial term appointments for Commissioners Hagemann's and Gade's predecessors were similarly extended by one (1) year and set to expire December 31, 2023.
FISCAL IMPACT:
None.
ALTERNATIVE:
The City Council could decline to make the appointments and direct the City Clerk to advertise for additional applicants.
CALIFORNIA ENVIRONMENTAL QUALITY ACT:
Not Applicable.
PUBLIC NOTICE:
The notice of vacancy was published in the Coronado Eagle & Journal. Notices were posted at City Hall, Coronado Community Center, Coronado Public Library, John D. Spreckels Center, on the City’s website, and in the City Manager’s Update.
