Subject: Appointment as the City's Liaison to the Coronado Hospital Foundation (CHF) Board; and to the Sharp Coronado Hospital and Healthcare Center (SCHHC) Board Honorable Mayor and Councilmembers,
It's been my privilege to serve as your representative to the Coronado Hospital through the appointment to the City Liaison seat on each of the two related boards: CHF and SCHHC. My threeyear appointment ends in December 2024. I would welcome reappointment for another term.
Since the pandemic, when the City and the hospital partnered to vaccinate the public, CHF and Sharp have invested heavily in our hospital. That's resulted in tremendous growth in the Coronado hospital's service to our community. Specifically, the hospital has:
Installed the 5th generation daVinci surgical robot, one of the first in the nation; Expanded services to include a comprehensive weight loss program; Attracted well known physicians in cosmetic and reconstructive surgery; Achieved Primary Stroke certification, underwritten by CHF; Completed the seismic retrofit to comply with state law, at Sharp's expense; Expanded and remodeled the emergency department, funded through CHF grants; Doubled emergency department visits, achieving the fastest throughput in the region; Expanded and remodeled the intensive care unit, through CHF fundraising; Achieved the highest level of Planetree Certification for patient centered care.
Our community is now recognizing what a treasure we have with such a high level of healthcare so close at hand. That realization is showing up in increased participation by our residents in the Coronado Hospital Foundation, as well as new patients using the hospital services.
The City's commitment to the Hospital through earlier Owner Participation Agreements and the nowcompleted land sale have been instrumental in creating a facility capable of the highest level of service. Your support as a Council, and your individual interest, has helped send the message that, for most of us, the best health care is right here on the island.
For me, working in the interface between the hospital and the City has been eye-opening and gratifying. I would welcome the opportunity to continue for another term as the City's liaison to the Coronado Hospital Foundation; and the Sharp Coronado Hospital and Healthcare Center.
Thank you,
Michael J. Woiwode
