CITY OF CORONADO

OFFICE OF THE CITY COUNCIL
March 25,2025
Members of the City Counci!, Ms. Friend, and Ms. Canlas:

Pursuant to the City Council Policy #2, we are requesting that an item be placed on a future City Council agenda for discussion and possible action to recognize the local women who were involved with the League of Wives.

The Coronado City Council was instrumental in working with the nonprofit organization to install the League of Wives Memorial in Star Park. This statue is the first in the nation to honor military spouses and the national organization known as the League of Wives.

The League of Wives leader and founder was a Coronado resident, and several members of the group called Coronado home. To specifically recognize the loca! women involved with the league who were here during Vietnam or who have made Coronado their permanent home for decades, we would like to propose the installation of a plaque on a bench in Star Park near the current memorial.

The impetus for this request is former Councilmember Susan Keith who is passionate about honoring the women from Coronado whose husbands were POW or MIA during Vietnam.
