Dear Members of the City Council,
I am writing to express my strong support for the enhancement and continuation of arts funding within the City of Costa Mesa. The arts play a crucial role in enriching our community, fostering creativity, and driving economic growth, and it is essential that they receive the support as outlined in the Arts and Culture Master Plan.
Costa Mesa has a vibrant cultural scene that not only enhances the quality of life for its residents but also attracts visitors from across the region. This year, I am pleased to report that our grants have successfully supported several community-based arts events, including the beloved "Songs in the Canyon" festival. Additionally, our first public art commission, "Mariposa Garden" by artist Marisabel Bazan, was unveiled earlier this year and has been warmly welcomed by the Westside community. These initiatives showcase the positive impact of arts funding on our city's cultural and communal landscape.
Supporting the arts ensures that we continue to nurture talent and offer diverse cultural experiences that are accessible to everyone in our community. Moreover, the economic benefits of investing in the arts cannot be overlooked. Arts organizations and events generate significant revenue through tourism, create jobs, and support local businesses. By allocating sufficient funds to the arts, Costa Mesa can stimulate economic development while also providing a nurturing environment for creativity and innovation.
I urge the City Council to prioritize arts funding in the upcoming fiscal budget. Investment in the arts is an investment in the future of Costa Mesa, enhancing its cultural wealth and economic vitality. With your continued support, we can expand these efforts.
Thank you all for your dedication; I look forward to seeing you at our upcoming ARTVenture.
Sincerely,
Alisa Ochoa
Arts Commissioner
