Animal Services Committee
Q3
Indicate why you wish to serve on this Committee. Provide any experience or qualifications you may possess that you think would be beneficial to this Committee. A resume (optional) may be attached.

I am interested in serving on the Animal Services Committee because I care deeply about the humane treatment of animals and believe that compassionate, thoughtful policies make a meaningful difference in the community. Animal services play an important role in both public safety and animal welfare, and I would like to contribute to conversations that help ensure Costa Mesa continues to support responsible pet ownership and humane practices.

Q4
As a Committee member, what ideas or projects are of interest to you? I would be interested in supporting projects that increase community awareness around responsible pet ownership, including education about licensing, spay/neuter resources, and animal safety. I believe outreach efforts — such as informational campaigns, community events, or partnerships with local schools — can help reduce stray populations and promote humane treatment.

I would also be interested in exploring ways to make animal services more accessible and visible to residents, including improving communication about available resources. Ensuring that policies balance public safety with compassion for animals is important to me, and I would welcome the opportunity to contribute ideas that support both.

Q3
Indicate why you wish to serve on this Committee. Provide any experience or qualifications you may possess that you think would be beneficial to this Committee. A resume (optional) may be attached.

I am honored to seek reappointment to the Animal Services Committee and to continue serving a community I care deeply about.

My commitment to animal welfare is both personal and professional. I am the proud mama of a nearly four-year-old rescue lab/staffie mix, and I have had companion animals throughout my life. That lifelong connection informs my perspective and reinforces my belief that how we care for animals reflects the values of our community.

Professionally, I bring more than two decades of experience in strategic communications, public relations, and community engagement. I have worked with animal-serving organizations and companies, including VCA and Kinn, supporting initiatives that connect people to services, build trust, and drive participation. I have also helped organize adoption events, including programs pairing rescue dogs with veterans in need of emotional support. These experiences defined for me the profound impact of thoughtful, well- executed animal services.

During my current term, I've focused on collaboration, practical solutions, and aligning with the City’s priorities. I understand how to communicate complex issues clearly, engage stakeholders, and help build momentum behind initiatives that require both community support and thoughtful implementation.

I would welcome the opportunity to continue contributing to the Committee’s work and advancing outcomes that benefit both residents and animals in Costa Mesa.

Q4
As a Committee member, what ideas or projects are of interest to you? I am particularly interested in continuing to advance several key initiatives that are important to both the community and the City’s long-term planning efforts.

First, I would like to help see forward a thoughtful, balanced approach to TNVR (Trap, Neuter, Vaccinate, Release), ensuring we address community concerns while supporting humane, effective population management.

Second, I am committed to maintaining momentum toward establishing a permanent animal shelter for Costa Mesa, which I believe is an essential investment that reflects our city's needs, growth, and values.

Third, I am also focused on expanding community engagement through programs and events, such as Barktoberfest, and other initiatives that foster meaningful connections between residents and animal services. Increasing awareness and participation strengthens outcomes across all areas of the Committee’s work.

Fourth, as the City enters its budget process, I see an important role in advocating for the Committee’s priorities and in ensuring that animal services remain part of the broader conversation about quality of life and public service delivery.

Fifth, I am also interested in supporting the continued evolution of newer initiatives, including the residential beekeeping program, as we evaluate its impact and identify opportunities for refinement.

More broadly, I am committed to advancing policies and programs that thoughtfully integrate animals into our community in ways that align with Costa Mesa’s mission, vision, values, and planning goals, enhancing the experience of our city for all residents, both two- legged and four-legged.

In 2017 I adopted my first dog, a Border Collie/GSD mix. Her original family had planned to surrender her to Animal Control, but a friend of the family offered to rehome her. I cannot imagine this dog surviving life in an animal shelter and, since we brought her home, I've become a supporter of the Adopt Don't Shop movement. I think humans can always do better as the stewards of our pets and animals.

Q3
Indicate why you wish to serve on this Committee. Provide any experience or qualifications you may possess that you think would be beneficial to this Committee. A resume (optional) may be attached.

I am deeply committed to animal welfare and to strengthening the connection between our community and the animals who depend on us. Serving on the Animal Services Committee would allow me to contribute to meaningful initiatives that promote humane treatment, responsible pet ownership, and accessible support services for residents and their pets. I am motivated by the opportunity to work collaboratively with others who share a passion for improving animal well-being and creating a more compassionate community.

Experience and Qualifications
I believe my background and community involvement make me a strong candidate for this committee:

Founder with Puppy Pals Club: Through my work with Puppy Pals Club, a community outreach charity focused on feeding animals and supporting pet owners in need, I have gained firsthand experience with the challenges faced by underserved pets and families. This work has strengthened my understanding of the importance of accessible resources and proactive community engagement.

Hands-On Animal Care Experience: Volunteering and supporting local shelters and animal organizations have given me insight into daily animal care needs, common welfare issues, and best practices in providing safe, compassionate environments.

Community Outreach & Collaboration: My involvement in local outreach efforts—including organizing food distributions for animals— has helped me build strong communication, coordination, and relationship‑building skills. I am comfortable working with diverse groups and helping connect community members with available resources.

Analytical & Problem-Solving Skills: I am able to evaluate information, consider multiple perspectives, and help propose practical and humane solutions aligned with broader community goals.

Through these experiences, I have developed a strong commitment to supporting both animals and the people who care for them. I would be honored to bring my energy, compassion, and community-driven mindset to the Animal Services Committee.

City of Costa Mesa Application for City Committee (2026) 3 / 4
Q4
As a Committee member, what ideas or projects are of interest to you? Expanded Community Outreach and Support Programs:

Building on my experience with Puppy Pals Club, I would like to help develop programs that provide food, supplies, and basic care assistance to pet owners facing financial challenges. This not only supports animals in need but also helps keep pets with their families and reduces shelter intake.

Education and Responsible Pet Ownership Campaigns:

I am interested in creating user‑friendly educational materials and events focused on topics like proper pet care, spay/neuter benefits, animal safety, and emergency preparedness. Increasing public awareness can significantly improve animal well‑being and reduce preventable issues.

Volunteer and Foster Program Enhancement:

Strengthening partnerships with local organizations and encouraging broader participation in foster programs can increase the capacity of shelters and improve outcomes for animals who need temporary care.

Animal Food Assistance & Resource Distribution Events:

Organizing recurring community events—similar to food distribution efforts through Puppy Pals Club—would be a meaningful way to reach underserved areas, support pet owners, and identify community needs more proactively.

Support for Lost-and-Found Animal Initiatives:

Enhancing communication tools and awareness campaigns to help reunite lost pets with their families more quickly is another area I’m passionate about.

Overall, I am interested in initiatives that combine compassion, practical support, and community collaboration. My goal is to help create a stronger, more informed, and more connected community that prioritizes the well‑being of all animals.
