Subject: flock “safety” cameras
Date: Wednesday, May 27, 2026 9:33:15 PM
hello,
i’m writing to you guys to urge you to diminish your contract with Flock. these cameras keep no one safe, i think you are well aware of the former CMPD officer that used Flock cameras to track his mistress. this is only one of many cases exactly like this. the data from Flock cameras is readily accessible to ANYONE with a commercial search engine (google, safari, duckduckgo, etc.) this should be concerning to every resident and council member in the city of costa mesa. a costa mesa cop using the cameras all over costa mesa to stalk someone, that’s insane. it’s not just cops that can access that data though, anyone can use it to stalk someone. another thing you guys should be concerned about is the cameras AI features. these AI features are made to zoom into people’s phones and things they’re reading for what exactly? this isn’t safety, it’s mass surveillance. we already have PLENTY of traffic cameras all over costa mesa, what’s the need for more? we aren’t even replacing cameras just adding more. these cameras don’t make me feel safe knowing all the data is stored in unencrypted databases that require no username or password to access. Flock isn’t going to make any major changes to fix this issue, it’s clear that big tech CEO’s could care less about our data on where we go, where we live, and what we do day to day is out there for anyone to see. the decision is up to you guys. i very much urge you guys to abandon the contract with Flock to keep the residents of costa mesa safer and to protect our privacy. or else you may see an even bigger rise in mass surveillance and stalking issues (especially with cops as the CMPD officers was not the first to be caught using Flock data to stalk someone)
sincerely,
lifetime resident of costa mesa, ella mcdonnell

Subject: The FY 2026‑27 Proposed Budget
Date: Monday, June 1, 2026 11:17:03 AM
Dear Mayor Stephens, Mayor ProTem Chavez and members of the City Council:

Costa Mesa is an eclectic city, and. with the arts, its culture is electric! Eclectic and electric.

But this doesn't happen by accident. It takes leadership. Your support in funding the Art Specialist position will have a meaningful impact on the future of the arts in this city! Leadership will guide the community into the future. Let's actively advance the arts together.

Eclectic and electric.

Your support of the arts budget in the established arts offerings demonstrates an investment in the community. Let's take action that aids the arts together... for future Art Crawls, the well-established signature September ArtVenture, future poet laureates, expanded art grants, and art in public places.

Eclectic and electric.

Finally, with the award of a consulting contract for the preparation of the arts and culture master plan, you ensure that Costa Mesa will remain a vibrant, inclusive community. Remember, the Arts amplify our city's achievements.

Thanks for supporting the Arts Budget!
Charlene Ashendorf

Subject: Fwd: Request for Pickleball Courts --- FOLLOW-UP REGARDING UPCOMING CITY COUNCIL AGENDA REQUEST Date: Tuesday, May 26, 2026 4:41:02 PM
Dear Council Members,
I hope this email finds you well.

I wanted to follow up on the request I previously sent to your office. A representative from the recreation center mentioned that email requests are added to the agenda for the next City Council meeting.

I plan to attend the upcoming meeting via Zoom on June 6 and wanted to kindly confirm if this item will be included on the agenda.

Thank you so much for your time and assistance.

To: <[email protected]

Dear Council Members,
I am a local resident writing to suggest that the city consider adding pickleball courts to Wakeham Park. There is a significant and growing interest in pickleball within our community, and providing dedicated space would be an excellent way to promote recreation for residents of all ages.

Adding pickleball courts offers several benefits to the city, including:
- Maximizing existing space: Courts can often be added to existing tennis or basketball facilities with minimal cost.
- Inclusive recreation: The sport serves all age groups, particularly seniors and youth. - Health and wellness: It encourages active lifestyles and outdoor activity. - Community engagement: It creates opportunities for social connection, leagues, and local events.
- Cost-effectiveness: Pickleball features lower construction and maintenance costs compared to many other park amenities.
- Meeting demand: As one of the fastest-growing sports in the U.S., this aligns with current recreation trends.
- Activating park areas: Increased usage brings more consistent, positive activity to our park spaces.

As a simple and cost-effective starting point, I suggest exploring whether existing courts could be adapted with pickleball striping.

I would be happy to help gather community input or support this effort in any way needed.

Thank you for your time and consideration.

Best regards,
Terri Duong

Dear Supervisor Foley, Mayor Stephens, City Council Members, and City Staff, I am writing to express my strong support for funding and installing a pedestrian crosswalk at the intersection of Fair Drive and Fordham Lane.

This intersection is a critical connection within the College Park neighborhood. Every day, families, children, and residents walk between both sides of the neighborhood to reach College Park Elementary, Wilson Park, and other community destinations. Despite the high volume of pedestrian traffic, there is currently no safe crossing option between Harbor Boulevard and Loyola Road.

Residents have witnessed numerous traffic collisions along Fordham and Fair, and speeding remains a significant concern. The lack of a marked crossing forces families, including young children, to cross a busy roadway without adequate pedestrian infrastructure.

A crosswalk at Fair and Fordham would improve safety, support walkability, and align with the City’s Safe Routes to School goals by providing students with a safer route to College Park Elementary. It would also strengthen neighborhood connectivity and encourage more families to walk to school and local parks.

As the City considers its budget, I respectfully urge you to prioritize funding for this much- needed safety improvement. The College Park community has been advocating for this crossing because it addresses a real and ongoing safety concern for residents of all ages.

Thank you for your consideration and for your commitment to keeping Costa Mesa neighborhoods safe.

Sincerely,
Carly Kray

Subject: Proposed Budget: Agenda Item 26-309
Date: Tuesday, June 2, 2026 11:54:57 AM
Dear Mayor and City Council,
As a resident, I feel that Costa Mesa stands at a meaningful crossroads. Our artists, creative businesses, and performing arts organizations have built an economy and a scene largely on their own.

Costa Mesa carries the title City of the Arts, but a title without investment is just a slogan.

Neighboring cities actively support the arts, with our peer city, Santa Ana, committing up to $180,000 annually in arts grants. In contrast, this past fiscal year, we allocated only $12,500. That gap speaks for itself.

The economic case is evident: creative outputs drive foot traffic, tourism, property values, and local employment. Every dollar invested in the arts returns measurably to our economy and to the civic identity that makes Costa Mesa a place people choose to call home. The arts make us feel good, yes, but they are also an indicator of the health of our community I hope you will honor the Arts Commission's recommendation not as a courtesy but as a real commitment to the community you represent. With your support, Costa Mesa can finally live up to its name.

Thank you,
Alisa Ochoa

My husband and I have both had separate incidents while driving where we were almost hit by other cars that weren't paying attention. We cross over Fair from Fordham and often other cars will turn onto Fair without turn signals or without looking if other cars are there. It feels dangerous overall. I think a stoplight would be better but at least a crosswalk is needed.

A crosswalk at Fair and Fordham would improve safety, support walkability, and align with the City’s Safe Routes to School goals by providing students with a safer route to College Park Elementary.
