Directing Levying of Assessments
Date: May 24, 2022
Written by: Craig Scott, Director of Public Works/City Engineer Recommendation
It is recommended that the City Council adopt a resolution setting a public hearing date to approve itemized report of sewer charges and penalties outstanding and directing levying of assessment for fiscal year 2022-2023.
Background
Typically, these are accounts with sewer only, without the option of shutting off the water. The Administrative Services department has invoiced the property owner for their sewer charges every 2 months at the same time as all other water/sewer customers in the City. However, the sewer bills have not yet been paid.
Analysis/Discussion
Pursuant to Cotati Municipal Code section 13.43, adoption of the attached resolution will establish June 28, 2022 as the date for the public hearing to receive oral and written protest to the Fiscal Year 2022-23 assessment of outstanding sewer charges. If adopted by the City Council after that public hearing, the assessments will be placed on the property tax rolls for payment by the property owner.
Financial Considerations
The costs of sewer services are expected to be paid by the assessment, including a 10% late fee and ½% per month penalty.
Environmental Issues
None.
