Item type: PUBLIC HEARINGS (ACTION)
To: City Council
Subject: Consideration of Objections to Report of Sewer Charges and Penalties Outstanding and Adoption of a Resolution Approving Itemized Report of Sewer Charges and Penalties Outstanding and Directing Levying of Assessments Date: June 28, 2022
Written by: Craig Scott, Director of Public Works/City Engineer Recommendation
It is recommended that the City Council conduct a public hearing to receive all oral and written protests to the amount of Fiscal Year 2021-2022 sewer charges and adopt a resolution approving itemized report of sewer charges and penalties outstanding and directing levying of assessment on the Fiscal Year 22/23 property tax rolls.
Background
The City of Cotati has delinquent account(s) that necessitates the collection through levying of assessment to the property rolls. The Administrative Services department has invoiced the property owner for their sewer charges every 2 months at the same time as all other water/sewer customers in the City. However, the sewer bills have not yet been paid.
On May 24, 2022, the City Council set June 28, 2022 as the date of the public hearing.
Analysis/Discussion
Adoption of the attached resolution will result in the County Assessor assessing the listed properties, in the amounts listed, for outstanding sewer charges and penalties from Fiscal Year 2021-2022.
Financial Considerations
The costs of sewer services are expected to be paid by the assessment. The sewer charges includes a 10% penalty for each delinquent billing, as well as 0.5% interest on the total balance for each month delinquent.
Environmental Issues
None.
