Greetings,
It has come to my attention that the Planning Commission will be discussing the General Plan’s annual progress report at the meeting on Monday, Nov. 7. I understand that the Bicycle and Pedestrian Plan has not been updated since 2014, although this is a critical aspect of future planning that needs to be addressed. Given the expressed goal to create and maintain bicycle and pedestrian transit networks that facilitate non-vehicular travel in the area, I encourage the Commission to make sure that this gap in the Plan is addressed without further delay.

As a resident in the Madrone Estates area, just south of 116, I often cross that highway in order to access the hiking trails along Washoe Creek, and it is always a challenge to find an opening in the traffic, especially given the speed at which most vehicles travel along that stretch. With plans for further development along that corridor, it will become even more critical to create opportunities for pedestrians and bicycles to cross the highway safely.

In order to secure funding for future improvements to address this issue, it is important that it be included in the current general plan.

Thank you for your consideration of this matter.
