Dear Mr. Patterson:
It’s occurred to us lately that our City Council will be changing soon with the three new council members assuming their offices. It also seems that this change will see more new members on the council (three I believe) in one election period than any of the past 8 or 10 years(?) or so. Because of this, we would hope to see an orderly transition on the council. Specifically, we would like to suggest that Susan Harvey, our current Vice Mayor, become our next Mayor for 2023. This choice would, in our opinion, provide the most continuity in Council leadership and give the new members time to adjust to their new responsibilities.
I (Tim), served for 10 years (2009-2019) on the now discontinued, City Design Review Committee. Over those years, I went from a new member to vice chair, and then to chair of the committee. Towards the end my service I stepped down from the chair position passing it on to my vice chair. This provided time for her to learn how run the meetings and conduct our business. This to us was an example of what we consider good leadership transition. So, we are suggesting a similar process for the new City Council.
