Recommendation
It is recommended that the City Council adopt a resolution approving the 2023 La Bonita ChikiBonito Children & Family Festival in La Plaza Park.
Background
La Bonita 92.3 is a radio and podcast station that first hosted their Chiki-Bonita Children & Family Festival in 2019 in the City of Santa Rosa. They had applied to host their second event in the City of Cotati in 2020 prior to the COVID-19 pandemic. The pandemic put a hold on the event for the past 3 years but is planned to come back this year in Cotati.
They are proposing to host this year’s Chiki-Bonita Festival in La Plaza Park on Sunday, April 30, 2023.
Analysis/Discussion
La Bonita has requested the following: 1) exclusive use of La Plaza Park; 2) food truck and vendor sales of food and beverages; and 3) live, amplified entertainment.
The event is a multicultural kids and family festival proposed to take place in La Plaza Park, where they will have live music and entertainment, including folkloric dance, mariachi trio, and more, plus food and merchandise vendors. All activities and vendors will be set up and take place within La Plaza Park, with no street closures requested or needed.
This event is family friendly and free to the public to attend. The event will feature live music, entertainment, and vendors between 12:00pm-7:00pm. La Bonita is requesting exclusive use of the park and bandstand from 10:00am-8:00pm to allow for setup, breakdown, and cleanup. The event will include vendors and food trucks selling food, beverages, and merchandise.
La Bonita has reviewed the City’s insurance requirements and has indicated that they will provide adequate insurance. A Condition of Approval has been included which requires proof of insurance be supplied to the City before the event.
Financial Considerations
The event organizer is not a non-profit and did not request any feed reductions or waivers. In accordance with the Park Use and Special Event Policy, fees will be assessed as follows per event:
$50 – Special Event Application Fee
$500 – Large Event Non-Resident Permit Fee
TOTAL FEE: $550
Special Event Refundable Security Deposit - $500
TOTAL DEPOSIT: $500 per event date
Total sum of permit fees and deposit: $1,050
