The user Neil Hancock has posted a comment on Legislative File 4055: Approval of a Minor Construction Agreement With DC Electric, Inc. to install bicycle and pedestrian safety improvements on Valparaiso Avenue.
Comment: Great to see this safety consideration is being brought to the council. As a change to streets, I would recommend it go to the Pedestrian and Bicycle Committee, Planning Commission. The Pedestrian Bicycle Plan 2014 – identifies Valparaiso Ave for sidewalk improvement, (a historically poor road design for shared use) . Thus this work item could also include simplified “pedestrian safety improvement" using the standard low cost street necking as well as pedestrian crossing so as to make it safer for pedestrians that share the western part of Valparaiso Ave . One example https://highways.dot.gov/safety/proven-safety-countermeasures/crosswalk-visibility-enhancements There are also simpler necking, being used by Santa Rosa and Petaluma, of simple street furniture such as planter boxes.
