Dear Mayor Harvey and Honorable Council Members,
My name is John Allred, and I am writing this letter to you and the council to express my concern and trepidation regarding the actions being taken by Harmony Communities Management Company at Countryside Mobile Home Park.
As I am sure you are aware, Countryside MHP, at 425 W. Sierra Avenue, is a senior citizen park and is a rent controlled park as per City guidelines.
I want to express my deep concern regarding the malicious intent of the Harmony Communities groups plan to change our community to an “All Ages” park and to eventually do away with the Rent Control status. An article by Marisa Endicott, in the April 11, 2023 Press Democrat describes in detail their actions taken in regards to the Carriage Court MHP in Santa Rosa. Through actions of intimidation and eviction threats, they have moved forward in their attempt by scaring many residents into moving, which allowed them to secure the properties and begin to increase higher base rents and to arbitrarily make the park an “All Ages” park…a very profit motivated agenda. I call it unscrupulous on the part of the owner, because they knew it was a rent controlled property when the purchased it.
The very same tactics are currently being employed against Countryside MHP and I wanted my opinion and concern to be known by the City Council, as I will not be able to personally attend the next Council meeting, I will be out of town and unavailable.
Thank you for taking the time to read this and to hopefully, to take a stand to protect the many elderly and fixed income residents that are counting on you to help protect our rights.
