Feb 25, 2025 City Council meeting Item 12.A Draft Water Rate Study Dear Mayor Ford, Vice Mayor Lemus and Councilmembers Sparks, Savage and Harvey, I appreciate a forward-looking study of what it takes to supply potable water to the residents of Cotati.
Cotati’s account web site and https://cotati.waterinsight.com/ are excellent. The slightly delayed “realtime” of water usage data 24hours after it was used, allows for setting and detection of unexpected large usage of gallons of water or persistent leaks.
1. For the 2025 Draft Water study, can the proposed water usage rate be explained, and compared to last rate study of 2022. It would seem a future 2025 $2.42/TGAL from current $4.83/TGAL is going to result in a greater overall cashflow?
2. PktPg85 “Proposed Sewer Rate Charge” For the Sewer rates, how is the “estimated actual use” charge calculated. Seems to be oxymoron “estimated actual” v “actual” usage of water.
3. Will there be incentives for customers who implement grey water systems.? That is plumbing changes to divert water to landscape, reduce the water going down the sewer, and reduce potable water demand?
4. For a related question on urban water – where does the City publish Well Water pumped. If it isn’t published, shouldn’t it be publishing it.?
Sincerely Neil Hancock
