Dear Ms. Bennett,
I'm reaching out on behalf of Legal Aid of Sonoma County to respectfully request that the City of Cotati take an official position in support of SB-749, legislation that would allow the residents or a nonprofit or public agency to purchase a mobile home park within 9 months of any notice of closure.
Introduced by Senator Allen (Los Angeles) this bill was developed in response to the devastating Palisades fire, which damaged or destroyed hundreds of mobile homes. SB 749 aims to preserve affordable housing and protect vulnerable residents from displacement.
We believe this legislation could play a critical role in preserving mobile home parks in Sonoma County and prevent bad faith closure notices like the ones that have been repeatedly issued to the residents of Country Side Mobile Home Park in Cotati, and nearby mobile home parks in Petaluma.
We hope the City of Cotati will consider formally supporting this bill. We've attached a detailed letter outlining SB 749 and its potential impacts, along with a template letter of support in case that is helpful. If the City chooses to submit a letter, we recommend sending it to the Senate Appropriations Committee, where the bill is scheduled to be heard on May 12, as well as the City's representatives in the Legislature, Senator Cabaldon and Assemblymember Rogers.
Sincerely,
Cait
