The Cotati Accordion Festival is a nonprofit, multi-generational, multicultural, internationally acclaimed music event which has been staged in La Plaza Park in Cotati for the last 34 years. We began our event in 1991 and only had to take one year off for covid during which we staged two international virtual festivals with performers playing in 9 different countries.
We donate the proceeds to local music programs in need of supplemental funding in order to exist Last year we donated $23,750.00 to the Cotati/Rohnert Park Education Foundation, the Thomas Page Academy Music Program, the Rancho Cotate High School Music Program, the Cotati/Rohnert Park Nursery School Co-op, and to student scholarships.
Days of the event this year are August 16 & 17. However, we are also asking for use of the park for set up during August 14th and 15th. Gates open at 9:30am and close at 8:00pm both days.
We would also request to use the city owned lot on East Cotati Ave which is adjacent to the Smart Train parking lot.
Amplified music is played both days from 9:45am to 8:00pm.
The black border line shows the location of the fences that we will erect to enclose the park.
The closure begins at 10:00am on the 15th and is removed by 10:00am on the 18th.
No food, drink, coolers or pets are allowed to enter the event. We do allow people to bring one water bottle. The Thomas Page and Nursery Co-op volunteers are in charge of inspecting all bags and whatever else needs to be examined before coming into the park.
Volunteers from the Nursery Co-op provide security, as they monitor the cars that come in and wh uses the parking lots. We have Praetorian Security for both nights.
Our beer and wine pouring team has gone through ABC training.

I want to thank you for the approval of a waiver of 50% of our foos due to the City of Colati last summer for our Stith annual, nonproft, multicultural, Cotat Accordion Festival. Your generosity is a fundamental part of wiry our festival is able to stay affordable: able lo attract word class entertainment, able to donate money to local music programs in noad of supplemental money to exist; and able to relum for a 2025 show doing our best to represent the City of Cotati in the beast fashion possibie.
I also want to thank the City of Colati for including us in the event schedule that was presented to Recology The result was a dorsation of garbago services which saved us closo to $5.000.00. Of courso, there was a hoaup when Recology decided that our evert only warranted two folets, an ADA tool and two wash slands However, Paolic Sanitation stepped in as i supplemental sponsor, providing 12 lolats, and i all worked out The 50% waiver on the part of the City of Cotat has become more important to our survival than ever.
Costs of production have not only gone up, they have become almost surreal. For years our fee at the Board of Hasien (cost of having vendors) was $429.00. Last year it was raised to $1,750.00. The fire permit was always $192,00. It went up to $800.00 and I understand another $400.00 will bo added by July. These are just two of the glaring oxamples of why small fostivals, with a low gate charge such as ours, are folding Our business plan embodies, a formula that keeps the ticket price low and the tourism dollars flowing into the Cotati/Rohnert Park communities (1 have endosed the Sonoma County Board of Tourism report from 2008-2010). Our formula is basad on sponsorship, contributions, vendor rental foos, merchandise sales, licket sales and foo waivers. Without all these platforms staying on an even keel, wo would not be able to exist. it takes all those pieces falling into place each year 1o create financial success for the Colati Accordion Festival.
Fee waivers contribute to our festival's ability to retum nach year as much as any other building block of our community support
We raised our prices this year by $4.00 a ticket. We are striving to keep our gate price affordable to the local community so that families can drop by and take advantage of the ambiance and joy produced at our event. Because 50% of our clientole comes from outside of Sonoma County, we are very concerned about the increased costs to them for their travel and lodging. Wo believe the "local discount" comes as a result of our neighbors not having to endure that heavy burden of increased travel expensos.
We believe the Colati Accordion Festival raises the profile of the City of Cotati in the most positive manner.
Most Americans don't know that the accordion never stopped being the most popular instrument in most of the countries around the world. People in other counthes know of the City of Cotati and how it is a destination point for the best accordionists in the world. We also believe that by bringing in accordionists from a wide variety of cultures that we are doing our part in trying to bring people together through the love and power of music To bring my request for a waiver of fees back to the forefront, I would like to ask the city council to consider being a full supporter of our international event, on into the future, as opposed to seeing it as a short term source of revenue.
