Hello city council members,
I’m writing to express my deep concern over the newly installed plastic incineration plant, Resynergi, in SoMo village. Just a few days ago, parents at Credo High School were notified by Bay Area Air Quality Management District of the plant’s existence and that they are within 1000ft of its pollution.
While BAAQMD was only required to notify people within 1000ft, it is obvious that air quality effects us all, and we should be alarmed by the idea of plastic pyrolysis (being “greenwashed” as a recycling facility) operating in our community. We can be in agreement that this has no place in populated residential areas with homes, schools, and parks.
This plant is the only one of its kind in all of California. In fact, there are only a handful in the entire country, many of which have been shut down over efficacy concerns and the risk of toxic output. There are no long term health or environmental studies. Whether or not their plastic microwaving could have the potential to be effective, it is simply not worth the risk and the unknown. We do not want to be the guinea pigs.
I and many, many others have contacted BAAQMD and Rohnert Park city council to oppose the operation and planned expansion of this plant. Susan Hollingsworth Adams has expressed she is in favor but when pressed on health data or emission rates, she said she didn’t know and deferred to Resynergi.
I urgently ask that you please help prevent this plant from being allowed to operate. This

should be in NO one’s backyard. I would ask council to adopt a resolution opposing the permitting and operation of this pyrolysis facility due to its proximity to schools, parks, and homes, and the environmental and health risks associated with plastic incineration.
Public comment ends 8/18; residents have been advised to send their concerns to:

We desperately do not want our home to become the refineries of Richmond, or the disastrous negligence of Hinkley, CA or Flint, MI. Thank you for your consideration.
With sincere hope,
