PROCLAMATION
OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF COTATI
PROCLAMING MAY 2026 AS AFFORDABLE HOUSING MONTH
WHEREAS, affordable housing is one of the cornerstones of a well functioning community; and
WHEREAS, our communities thrive when all families have a place to call home; and WHEREAS, each year, families in Sonoma County struggle to find an affordable home in one of the most expensive housing markets in the nation; and WHEREAS, affordable housing is an essential element of the equitable fire recovery process in Sonoma County; and
WHEREAS, the City of Cotati has approved over 2.5 times more housing units than is required by the Regional Housing Needs Assessment (RHNA), including a minimum of 15% deed restricted affordable units in all market rate projects and a 43 unit below market rate development in our downtown; and
WHEREAS, the City of Cotati is committed to safe, stable, and affordable housing for all its residents; and
WHEREAS, the strength of the community and economy depends on providing access to housing options that allow current and future residents of all income levels and backgrounds to live where they work; and
WHEREAS, affordable housing near employment centers and transit reduces traffic congestion, air pollution, and emissions, and lowers housing and transportation costs for local workers; and
WHEREAS, organizations throughout Sonoma County are dedicated to providing safe, stable, permanent and affordable housing for all members of the community and are working collaboratively to bring the needed affordable housing to our communities; and WHEREAS, these organizations are encouraged to partner with local agencies and community members to recognize Affordable Housing Week, which supports sharing best practices, opportunities, and solutions to provide a variety of housing types so there is a home that is within reach for all residents of Sonoma County.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT PROCLAIMED on this day of May 12, 2026, by the City Council of the City of Cotati, that the month of May 2026 is Affordable Housing Month.
