PROCLAMATION
OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF COTATI
HONORING MICHEAL LARRAIN, THE COTATI ”FLOWER GUY”
WHEREAS, Michael Larrain is known to many as the beloved “Flowers Not to Reason Why” vendor who sold bouquets of flowers from the back of his car on East Cotati Avenue nearly every day over the past 50 years; and
WHEREAS, born to Marjorie and Charles Larrain on Sept. 20, 1947, Michael was raised in Los Angeles with four sisters and a brother; and
WHEREAS, Michael was discovered as an actor on stage when he was a student at Pierce College, and
WHEREAS, signed by a Hollywood agent, Michael appeared in two episodes of “Marcus Welby, M.D.”, two episodes of “Ironside”, the TV series “Gunsmoke”, as well as having key parts in “The Last Child,” a movie released in 1971 starring Ed Asner and the 1968 film “Buckskin”, where he played Jimmy Cody; and
WHEREAS, Michael joked that he loved the beauty and the attention of Hollywood, but the gilded life never was for him, so he moved north; and WHEREAS, Micheal found flower sales and discovered that the freedom of such a job allowed him to read, write, converse and create community with strangers, usually in his signature Dodger blue gear; and
WHEREAS, more than a small-town entrepreneur, Michael was a prolific reader and writer, penning works of fiction, books of poetry and children’s tales, including eleven books that are currently for sale on Amazon; and
WHEREAS, although we lost a beloved part of our community on February 25, 2026, Michael's memory and enduring works will live on in the community, as well as with his daughter Wilder and "fiancée for life", Bonny.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT FURTHER PROCLAIMED on this day of August 25, 2026, by the City Council of the City of Cotati, that we honor Michael Larrain for 50 years of bringing smiles to residents and visitors and making the community a better place.
