Item type: CONSENT CALENDAR (ACTION)
To: City Council
Subject: CANCELLATION OF THE CITY COUNCIL MEETING ON
SEPTEMBER 22, 2026
Date: September 8, 2026
Written by: Kevin Patterson, City Clerk
Recommendation
It is recommended that the City Council adopt a motion to cancel the regular City Council meeting of September 22, 2026.

Background
The City Council generally meets on the 2nd and 4th Tuesday of each month. This year, the 4 th Tuesday of September falls on September 22nd. The Mayor and Vice Mayor will be traveling to attend the League of California Cities Annual Conference in Anaheim on September 22nd.

Additionally, Councilmember Ford is unavailable in person, so would only be able to attend remotely.

Analysis/Discussion
Given the unavailability of the Mayor and Vice Mayor to attend a meeting on September 22nd, as well as the inability for Councilmember Ford to attend in person, there would only be two City Councilmembers available and a minimum of three in person is required to have a quorum.

Therefore, it is recommended that the City Council cancel the Regular meeting of September 22nd. The next regularly scheduled City Council meeting is October 13, 2026.

Although not required by State open meeting laws, in accordance with the City Council Rules of Conduct, section I.A.3, “Any meeting of the Council may be canceled in advance by a majority vote of the Council.” This is intended to provide advanced notice for the public when there is a changed or canceled meeting date.

Financial Considerations
There will be no direct financial impact from canceling a City Council meeting.

Environmental Issues
The action of canceling City Council meeting dates does not constitute a project as defined by the California Environmental Quality Act.
