To: Damien O Bid, City Manager
From: Kelly Smith, Executive Director, Agricultural Community Events Farmers Markets RE: Downtown Shop and Stroll 2026
Agricultural Community Events Farmers Markets, also known as, Cotati Community Farmers' Market, respectfully requests that the City Council approve the Downtown Shop and Stroll to be held on Saturday, December 5, 2026, from 11am to 5pm on the sidewalks and street of Old Redwood Highway from Charles to E Cotati and along both side streets known as La Plaza. In addition to the street we would also use the parks along La Plaza (map attached with location outlined in red). A street closure from 7:30am to 6:30pm is requested for this event.
Downtown Cotati Shop and Stroll is intended to encourage people to shop, eat and receive professional services throughout the city of Cotati. This event involves all of Cotati, not just the downtown, we are requesting that Old Redwood Highway be closed from E Cotati to Charles Street as well as the side streets known as La Plaza). This event will allow businesses that are not located downtown to be able to have a booth to introduce what they offer and encourage people to come to their businesses.
Cotati Shop & Stoll has been a huge success since 2017. For 2026 there will be additional advertising and interest from the business community. We will work with the Cotati Chamber of Commerce, and other local businesses to get the word out to the businesses of Cotati. We will be going door to door as part of outreach to notify businesses of the street closure. In the spaces not filled by local businesses we will add farmers' market vendors into the mix including farm goods, packaged foods, food trucks, and crafts. We will also offer a petting zoo, Santa and other fun children's entertainment. Adding in additional vendors will enhance the event and cause a larger draw to downtown businesses. Downtown businesses will be encouraged to offer specials or discounts as well as joining the event in the street. In addition to supporting outreach efforts Cotati Chamber of Commerce will 1 offer beer and wine sales at the event and will obtain the proper ABC permitting to do so.
Agricultural Community Events Farmers' Markets already carries insurance in the amount of $2,000,000 and names the city as additional insured. All vendors will sign liability waivers. Trash, recycling bins and portable restrooms will be obtained from Redwood Empire Disposal. Staff, volunteers and Shop & Stroll vendors will be responsible for cleaning up.
Since we are a nonprofit and this is part of economic development for the City of Cotati that is in its 10th year of operation, we request a 50% fee waiver for all fees including street closure, application fee and permit fee.
