Dear Councilmembers,
I am reaching out on behalf of Play Like DJ and Girasol Collective to respectfully request the nonprofit fee reduction for our 2nd Annual Almas Vivas: A Día de los Muertos Celebration, taking place on Sunday, November 1, 2026, at La Plaza Park in Cotati.
We are excited to share that Play Like DJ is now officially a nonprofit organization. Inspired by the life and legacy of Darian "DJ" Guizar, Play Like DJ empowers youth through sports by creating opportunities and mentorship experiences that help young athletes play, grow, and thrive. Through scholarships and community partnerships, our goal is to remove barriers for local youth while creating opportunities for them to succeed both on and off the field.
Almas Vivas is our signature community fundraiser benefiting Play Like DJ. This event brings our community together to celebrate Día de los Muertos through culture, tradition, remembrance, music, local businesses, and family activities. Guests will be invited to honor loved ones at our community altar while enjoying live entertainment, local food and artisan vendors, children's activities, and other cultural experiences.
Last year's first Almas Vivas was made possible through the support of the City of Cotati and our community, and we are grateful for the opportunity to return for a second year. Funds raised through this year's event will directly support Play Like DJ's mission and our work with local youth.
We respectfully request the available nonprofit fee reduction to help us keep event costs manageable and allow more of the funds raised to go directly toward our mission and future youth programs.
Thank you for your continued support and consideration. We truly appreciate the City of Cotati helping us create a meaningful event for our community.
