Re: Preston Island Night Closure Ordinance
Mayor Greenough and Crescent City Council,
The City is on the wrong path by focusing on closures as is indicated by the proposed Preston Island Night Closure Ordinance. Moving people to the neighborhoods isn't the answer. I can see this at Battery Point and the area between the jetty and B Street pier, along Lighthouse Way, B Street, and Howe Drive.

There have been as many as 18 campers, vans, and cars parked and polluting the area of sand and street-side within 100 yards of the sandy area since the Battery Point parking lot and Beachfront Park were closed to overnight parking.

The ordinance speaks of finding people guilty and fining them. That's just silly. How is the City going to collect fines from people who are homeless?
Instead of focusing on moving people to the neighborhoods, which is what is happening around Battery Point, put your energy and funding into making Mission Possible a success so we have a homeless shelter. Only once we have a shelter will enforcement be humane and possible.

I'm expecting every City Council member to see the free camping for yourselves in the Battery Point area if you haven't already. If you've seen it, why would you repeat the failure and increase homelessness in the neighborhoods? Support and fund Mission Possible instead.

Sincerely,
Tamera Leighton
