• 1 in 5 (22%) Del Norte High School juniors have vaped in the last 30 days, 1 in 10 (11%) 7" graders and more than half (58%) of nontraditional students had vaped in the last 30 days.
• Crescent City has double the state average of tobacco retailers with 4 retailers per 2,500 residents verses California's 2 per 2,500 residents" • As of the 2020-2021 school year nearly 40% of Del Norte 7th graders and 60% of 11* graders said it was easy to get vape products" • Flavored tobacco products are sold in fruity and menthol flavors specifically intended to entice youth use.
• Of the California teens who consume tobacco products, including vape products, 86.4% report using a flavored tobacco product" • 81% of Del Norte tobacco retailers are selling flavored nicotine products". • 50% of Del Norte tobacco retailers have tobacco marketing in kid- friendly locations, meaning: a tobacco product and or advertisement is placed within 6 inches of candy, or on a front counter, or below 3 feet.

Regulating sales by issuing tobacco retail licenses, we can ensure our kids can't illegally buy tobacco in Del Norte County and become Big Tobacco's next replacement customers.

The best way to protect our children is to implement common sense solutions:
• Eliminate the sale of flavored tobacco products
• Ensure retailers are licensed to sell tobacco and subject to underage sales compliance checks
• Reduce point-of-sale marketing which entices children to buy • Limit licenses to one tobacco retailer for every 2,500 stores in Del Norte County
