On the agenda tonight Feb 20, 2024 are the following public comments:
Agenda Item #7:
Salary/benefits increase for the Fire Chief.
Be aware that we have been approached to withdraw the
initiative measure to be put on the Nov. '24 ballot which would repeal the Ordinance passed on March 8, 2021 and adopted on July 12, 2021. If this initiative is voted in, this will stop the tax on property that started at $74/year to help fund the Crescent Fire Protection District.
We have until August 9, 2024 to withdraw this initiative if it makes sense.
Right now, it doesn't make sense to increase the Fire Chief's salary/benefits. I will ask each of you council members to consider postponing this agenda item to a later date. Then I will also ask that you check with a few dozen of your
constituents (not connected to the fire departments) about increasing the pay/benefits from someone making
$200,000/year.
Questions:
1.) I see from the Agenda packet the figures for Fire Captains and Fire Dept Admin Specialist and ask what their benefits run so that we have a complete financial picture on what they are making.
2.) Is it the intention of this city to create a paid fire department rather than volunteer? You might also want to check with your constituents on how they feel about that.
Agenda Item #14:
Zoning - 1405 California -
Is it true that a waiver has been made so that parking will be less than adequate for that 56 unit project?
Agenda Item #15:
Is it true? 4. Addition of subsection “E” to Section 5.05 (Restrictions on Powers) to read: “The AUTHORITY shall not support or pursue activities involving the offshore generation of wind energy.”
Where in the JOINT POWERS AGREEMENT FOR TRI-AGENCY
ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT AUTHORITY does it state that? I
must have missed it.
You must be aware that fishermen in our area are very opposed to offshore wind energy. They think you are trying to drive them out of business.
Regards,
Donna Westfall
PS: Copies to be dropped off at City Hall of a few names and addresses of people not in favor of increasing salary/benefits for the fire chief.
