32 RESOLUTION NO. 2023-R____
A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
CULVER CITY, CALIFORNIA, AMENDING CITY
ATTORNEY AUTHORITY TO S ETTLE CLAIMS AGAINST
THE CITY AND LITIGATION IN AMOUNTS UP TO $25,000,
IN THEIR SOLE DISCRETION , AND UP TO $50,000, IN
CONSULTATION WIT H THE CITY MANAGER, AND
RESCINDING RESOLUTION NO. 2000-R036.
WHEREAS, pursuant to Resolution No. 2000 -R036, adopted on April 10, 2000, the City Attorney’s current authority to settle claims against the City and litigation is in amounts of up to $10,000 in their sole discretion and amounts up to $25,000 in consultation with the City Manager; and
WHEREAS, in settlement n egotiations, it is often important that parties be able to reach settlements without delay; and
WHEREAS, in mediation and court-conducted mandatory settlement conferences, there is a need to provide greater latitude for settlement of litigation; and WHEREAS, with respect to claims, the avoidance of litigation through negotiated settlements can and does result in cost savings to the City in appropriate cases; and
WHEREAS, the curre nt settlement authority has not been increased for over 20 years; and
WHEREAS, the City Council has determined that the settlement authority for the City Attorney should be increased in order to assist the expeditious settlement of claims against the City and litigation.

32 NOW, THEREFORE, the City Council of the City of Culve r City, DOES RESOLVE as follows:
1. The City Attorney, in their sole discretion, is hereby authorized to settle claims against the City and litigation in amounts up to $25,000.
2. The City Attorney, in consultation with the City Manager, is authorized to settle claims against the City and litigation in amounts up to $50,000.
3. Resolution No. 2000-R036 is hereby rescinded.
