Thepurposeof thisletter istorequest your considerationof fundingtoprovideessential crossingguardservicesthroughout theCityprovidingsafepassagefor Culver CityUnifiedSchool District (“District”)studentsandparents/guardiansontheir waytoandfromschool.
WeappreciatetheCity’sfundingof suchservicesinthepast, andlookforwardtoyour considerationofcontinuedfundingfor the24-25school year. IncoordinationwiththeParks, Recreation&CommunityServicesDepartment, wehaveidentifiedabudget needof $489,000toestablishcrossingguardsat 17crossingsthroughout thecity(seeattachedcrossinglist). Crossingguardserviceswouldbeprovidedbyathirdpartyvendor specialist andmanagedbytheDistrict.
Crossingguardsprovideessential safetyandsecurityservicessuchas:● Encouragingchildrentopracticesafepedestrianpracticesnear traffic;● Usingexistinggapsintraffictohelpstudentscrosssafely;● Alertingmotoriststhat pedestriansareintheprocessof usingtheschool crossing;● Providingapresenceonour streetsfor trafficspeedmitigationandan“eyesonthestreet” forcommunitysecurity;● Observingandreportinganyincidentsor conditionsthat present apotential safetyhazardtotheschool childrenor theguard.
