REPORT/UPDATE
On April 13, 2026, ad hoc subcommittee members, Chaiya Jones and Carlos Valverde, asked Council to amend the 2025-2026 EHRAC Work Plan to include the continued work of exploring the creation of a youth advisory body for the City of Culver City. The Council agendized the item for a later meeting. As of now, we have not been officially informed whether the item was approved.
Up to this point, the ad hoc subcommittee worked with Chaiya Jones, EHRAC’s youth member for the 2025-2026 year, in researching various youth boards and advisories in surrounding cities. We have agreed that the purpose of exploring a youth advisory is mainly for teen voices to help shape city policy.
We delayed the work of this ad hoc subcommittee to accommodate the transition of a new youth member into EHRACand the summer break.
The ad hoc subcommittee would like to invite our new youth EHRAC 2026-2027 member to join our ad hoc subcommittee. In our continued work, we hope to:
● Create a work timeline with the intent to complete the ad hoc’s initial work; ● Study the various forms of youth advisories, commissions, boards, etc., and determine what works best for the City of Culver City;
● Conduct teen focus groups;
● Survey adults and teens;
● Interview City officials regarding the creation of CBCs; ● Enlist the support of the youth and the community;
● Decide to make a recommendation to Council to create a youth CBC for the City of Culver City.
The ad hoc subcommittee will report its progress at upcoming EHRAC meetings, with the intent to complete its work by February 2027.
